Beaumont English Language Library
The Beaumont library is financed by members subscriptions and also receives an annual grant from the local community to help with the running costs.
In return members have been happy to put something back into the local community by going into a number of primary schools to help with communication in English. Since 2004 volunteers have been assisting, not by direct teaching, but giving children a chance to improve their English by talking with native English speakers, enjoying games, rhymes and songs together.
In 2008, one of the members who went into schools wrote a pantomime, a shortened simplified & topical version of Cinderella, in English, lasting about 30 minutes.
This ran in 7 schools plus a public performance. Magnificently supported by the local schools, one headmaster closed the school for the pantomime and marched all 100 children to the town hall to watch.
